    Notes:

    KCB, 42nd Regt of Foot (Royal Highlanders).
    He joined 42nd Regt in 1825, Capt 1829, Lt General in army 1842. Placed on half pay 17 Aug 1856. Commander of Forces in New Zealand in the Maori wars of the 1860s. Later Governor of the Royal Military College, Sandhurst.
    In 1881 he was a widower living with his niece, Janet E. Gower, and her family in Cheltenham

    Duncan married Louisa Flora Maclean on 10 Sep 1873 in Kew, UK. Louisa died on 23 Sep 1875 in Brighton. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Wounded at Culloden, his estate was forfeited to the crown and he was banished to France. A letter from Colin Campbell of Glenure (Forfeited estate papers) dated 20 Nov 1749, states that he "died last month at Dunkirk".
