    Other Events:

    • Immigration ship: Blonde
    • Immigration: 27 Dec 1849, Sydney

    Notes:

Of Trislaig, Ardgour. He was a carpenter, said to be involved in boat building on Loch Eil, son of Angus and Isabella.

Migrated with his family on "Blonde", arriving Sydney 27 Dec 1849 as shepherd, "aged 50", and settled in New England.

YDNA testing has shown that he descends from MacMartin Camerons, specifically from the Camerons of Kinlochleven and very likely from an early branch of that family, the Camerons of Blarachaorin. This backs up the documented finding of his baptism in Kilmallie 17 Jan 1790 "son of Angus Cameron and Isabel Cameron in Blarchorn".

A descent is claimed by some family members from Cameron of Fassifern. Callart descent has also been suggested. Either is possible through a female line.

Migrated with his family on "Blonde"

    Died:
Described as boat builder, aged 98, married at 32 (death cert.) Obit. gives age as 96, apparently exaggerated

    • Ancestor of Line: [John7] JOHN CAMERON of FORT WILLIAM per BLONDE

    Notes:

A gravestone erected at Eilean Munde in 1848 by his grandson Donald McPherson describes him as Tenant at Blarachaoriunn. Also recorded there are his wife and his sons Donald and Alexander

His position in the Blarachaorin family has yet to be determined. He was one of 7 or 8 tenants at Blarachaorin.

Angus married Isabella Cameron in ca 1781. Isabella (daughter of Donald Cameron and Catherin Thomson) was born in 1762; died in Jun 1838; was buried in Eilean Munde, Loch Leven. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

John Anderson, Factor for the Lochaber Estate of the Duke of Gordon by "widow Isabella Cameron" (also described as "widow Angus Cameron" and "daughter of Donald Mor Oig Cameron"). She wrote to the Factor pleading that she was in severe poverty, infirm and unable to pay the rent. One of approx. 7 or 8 tenants there, she clarified that she had lived at "Blarchoirn" for 28 years, and had been widowed for 4. 1. 10.  Donald Cameron was born in 1734 in Annat, Inchree (son of Donald Cameron); died in 1800.

    Notes:

He (or possibly his father) was agent for the Duke of Gordon and helped him raise the Gordon Highlanders.

Donald (Big Donald, the younger) was the head of a notorious and unruly family who lived on the farms of Leckroy and Annat at the head of Glen Roy and they were known to have rental interests in the farms down towards Onich and Loch Leven

Donald married Catherin Thomson in ca 1759. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Other Events:

    • Ancestor of Line: [Ewen8] EWEN CAMERON from NETHER LOCHABER

    Notes:

"whose ancestors are said to belong to the old stock of Camerons who lived in Nether Lochaber for generations back". His descendants have made a claim of illegitimate descent from the Camerons of Erracht, suggesting that this may have been Ewen of Erracht, father of Sir Alan Cameron of the 79th Highlanders. I have seen no evidence to substantiate this claim. A letter of 1900 (see John7) states that Allan Cameron, grandson of Margaret was second cousin of Camerons of Drochit Onich, identified as Callart branch

    Children:
    1. 6. John Cameron
