Female 1766 - Bef 1797  (~ 30 years)

Generations:      Standard    |    Vertical    |    Compact    |    Box    |    Text    |    Ahnentafel    |    Fan Chart    |    Media    |    PDF

Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Janet Cameron was born in ca 1766 (daughter of Alexander Cameron and Jean Campbell); died before 1797.

Generation: 2

  1. 2.  Alexander Cameron (son of Dugald Cameron, 13th of Strone and Jean McBean); died in 1772.

    Notes:

Described as "14th of Strone", he took over the running of Strone while his elder brother was involved in Jacobite affairs.

His will of 30 Apr 1772 gives details of his children.

Alexander married Jean Campbell. Jean was born in ca 1745; died in ca 1803. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  Jean Campbell was born in ca 1745; died in ca 1803.

    Notes:

Jean attracted Allan Cameron of Erracht (b. 1750) in about 1775 and was at the centre of his duel with Alexander Cameron of Muirshearlaich. She was known as the Red Haired Widow.

Her brothers are recorded as Lieut. Archibald Campbell at Carie, Rev. James Campbell of Kenmore, Perthshire and Colin Campbell, Collector of Customs. Also a sister Helen married John Cameron of Camghouran, presumed parents of her heir, Ewen Cameron, Writer.

Her Testament of 1803 refers to a Trust document of 1797 naming her nephew Ewen Cameron, Writer, as her heir.

    Notes:

Possible marriage 13/18 Jun 1765, Fortingall, Perthshire (IGI)

    Children:
    1. 1. Janet Cameron was born in ca 1766; died before 1797.
    2. John Cameron was born in 1769/71; died before 1797.
    3. Dougald Cameron died before 1797.
    4. Alexander Cameron died before 1797.

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  Dugald Cameron, 13th of Strone died in ca 1740.

    Other Events:

    • Ancestor of Line: [Strone] CAMERONS or MACGILLONIES of STRONE

    Notes:

His grandfather was John Cameron of Strone who died March 1687, husband of Anna who survived him and father of Alexander, Donald, Margaret and Mary Cameron (Testament Dative of 12 Dec 1687).

His father was presumably Alexander, not mentioned in Bygone Lochaber or Stewart's The Camerons.

What little is known of the earlier generations of the Camerons of Strone can be seen in the standard texts, showing their descent from the Macgillonies.

    "living 1717,25,37"

There has been some uncertainty about the details of the 18th century generations, with many conflicting "facts" in print. Some of these have been proven wrong by recently found legal documents and wills.

The following seems to be a reasonable reading of the information available at the present time. Later generations are on a firmer footing.

    Died:
    before 1745

Dugald married Jean McBean. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 5.  Jean McBean

    Notes:

Ref. Will of Alexander Cameron of Achnaherry, 1762. She apparently married this Alexander Cameron after the death of her husband Dugald, without issue.

    Children:
    1. John Cameron, of Strone died after 1773.
    2. 2. Alexander Cameron died in 1772.
    3. Margaret Cameron died young, after first child.
    4. Mary Cameron
    5. Duncan Cameron died in ca 1772.
