  1. 8.  John Cameron was born on 8 Sep 1830 in Shelfield, Kilmodan (son of Charles Cameron and Janet Fletcher); died on 2 Mar 1894 in Menindie, NSW; was buried on 3 Mar 1894 in Menindie Cemetery , C of E..

    Notes:

    He was at Shelfield for 1851 census, listed as shepherd, before migrating to NSW ca 1852, He was at "Polia", near Pooncarie, on the River Darling, south of Menindie, known to be working as Station Overseer from 1874 and living there at Yartla Lake from at least 1869/70 (Electoral roll). In 1893 he probably moved to Rochdale (the family property which eventually totalled 47,268 acres of pastoral leasehold and 80 acres freehold) soon before his death from tetanus in 1894, having bought the block next to his son from Richard Dawes (HL 495, fronting the Darling).
    Polia was recorded in 1885 Parliamentary returns as being of 539,040 acres, occupied by James Pile. They ran 72,984 sheep, 150 cattle and 130 horses. Cameron's executor was Pile's son-in-law, David Herbert Power, manager of Cuthero, adjacent to Polia and also owned by the Pile family, being of 642,000 acres and running 55912 sheep, 100 cattle and 200 horses
