    Insurance manager for Victoria Insurance Co. in Brisbane and Sydney

    Stewart married Laura Blanche Lloyd Hart on 2 Jun 1897 in Brisbane. Laura was born in 1873; died on 29 Aug 1950 in Sydney. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

    Merchant in Port Glasgow before migration (Ref. Greenock Advertiser 26.5.1859). The 1851 census shows him as Grocer, living at Chapelton Gardens, Port Glasgow.

    Not recorded as living on his mother's 1884 death certificate.

    He arrived by 1853, possibly via Melbourne 1852, the John Cameron, clerk, who migrated per "Thorwaldsen"; or the Mr J. Cameron per "Commodore", from Glasgow 14 Jan 1853, arr. Sydney 2 May 1853.

    He was Merchant or Commission Agent in Harrington St, Sydney from 1854, at first with James S. Scott. Bankrupt in 1862.

    He separated from his wife ca 1870-2, and nothing was known of him after, except that he nominally owned a block of land in Mosman until 1886.

    Sydney certificates suggest a birth ca 1828 in Inverness-shire

  1. 4.  Angus Cameron was born in ca 1786 in Kilmallie (son of John Cameron and Sarah Cameron); died on 26 May 1855 in Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire; was buried in Port Glasgow.

    Notes:

    In 1820 he was a servant at Ruthven, Kingussie.

    Recorded as Porter, Belhaven St, Port Glasgow, in 1841; Gardener in 1851, with 4 acres at Chapelton Gardens, Port Glasgow Road, nr Greenock, employing one labourer.

    At death he was said to have been 25 years in Renfrewshire, but probably longer.

    In 1806 the Farm and Garden of Chappleton consisting of 3 farms were advertised to be let.
    The area of Port Glasgow along the river is described in 1836 Statistical Account as "garden ground, furnishing a supply of vegetables and fruit, excellent in quality and much more than needed for the inhabitants".

    Chapelton Gardens has been identified as on the flat north of the railway, below Chapelton itself, and near the roundabout at the west of Port Glasgow.

    Angus married Flora Cameron on 16 Apr 1816 in Kilmallie. Flora (daughter of Kenneth Cameron and Mary Cameron) was born in ca 1789 in Kilmallie; died on 7 Jan 1884 in Smith St, Caversham, Dunedin; was buried in Dunedin, NZ. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    She went to NZ in 1867. Said to have had 2 sons living in 1884, aged 64 and 48, one daughter 54.

    Both of Fort William at marriage (rather than Gordonsburgh), which was conducted by Rev. Paul McColl of Appin(who in Kilmallie was associated mainly with marriages from Onich/Ballachulish region).
