High Sheriff of Essex from 1780s to early 1790s.
Also recorded as shipowner, with extensive concerns in East Indies trade, which in a financial slump led to the failure of his banking business 22 Mar 1797.
From 1776 Tutor (with Ewen, yr of Fassfern and Martha Marshall) to the children of Charles Cameron, Lochiel, later Trustee for the Lochiel estate
